2nd Annual Curwensville, Pa Race

TRORA will host the 2nd Annual Curwensville, Pa race June 30 - July 1.  This site was originally found and pursued by Tom Eynon.  A big thank you to Tom!  Last years event was a big success even with mother nature playing havoc all weekend.  While we didn't have the opportunity to race both days, the racing that was able to be completed on Saturday was spectacular.  Not only was there a good turn out of racers, there was also a good turn out of spectators.  At last years event, the racing was conducted on the smaller side of the lake.  The race course was positioned and sized perfectly for the spectators to be able to watch the action no matter where on the race course.  This years event will be conducted on the larger side of the lake, right at the bottom of the hill.  Both last year and this year the community is providing sponsorship as well as vendors for the spectators and racers to enjoy.  TRORA plans to put in a race course similar to last year but with wider turns to provide more room on the race course for the racers.  TRORA is very excited about this race and hopes to have another good turn out of racers.  Come one, come all to this beautiful site.

Post-Race Report

Curwensville, PA is in the books and what a great race.  There were only 65 entries, roughly each day, but the racers who showed up, were there to race hard and have a good time.  The park personnel and sponsors were more than gracious and cooperative.  The race committee was finely tuned and ran a perfect race even with the wind causing delays both days.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The many spectators on hand each day were treated to nice weather and great racing.  Great battles were seen in ASH, 20SSH, and CSH both days.  ASH saw 8-9 entries each day with Nate Forshey showing all kinds of speed on Saturday to take the overall win.  Sunday, the battle continued with several drivers vieing for the win.  Dylan Justice, Mike Kench, and Abby Pond battled both heats with the overall win going to Abby Pond.  20SSH had Nate Forsehy, Dana Holt, in his new boat, and Matt Dagastino battle both days.  Forshey took the win on Saturday and Jeff Claisse took the win on Sunday.  Jeff, a new racer from Long Island, NY stayed legal both heats to capture the win.  As Jack Brewster always says, " the fastest person doesn't always win".  You have to stay legal to be in the hunt for the victory.  Dana Holt looked very impressive in his new B&H built by Jerry Davids.  I haven't seen a boat so fast through the turns in a long time.  Dana really had it dialed in and you would have never known it was his first weekend racing the boat.  In CSH, the race was up for grabs both days.  Joe Silvestri, Rick Wagner Jr, Ryan Runne, and Troy Gladkowski battled on Saturday.  Silvestri took heat one with Runne on his heals.  Heat two, Runne took the win while Silvestri bowed out after a near accident in the first turn.  Great job Ryan!  Sunday, saw the return of Joel Weigel to CSH with a fresh power plant.  Joel nailed the start and took the win in heat one.  Heat two saw Silvestri and Wagner break out front with Wagner making a great move to pass Silvestri in the second turn lap two.  Unfortunately, for Silvestri and Wagner they both jumped the gun.  Weigel took the win in heat two for the overall win.  It was great having Joel back out racing CSH.  There were several other classes that ran throughout the weekend.  From what I can remember; Jerry Davids did his usual dominating in several classes, Jack Stotts eon CMH both days, Dylan Runne won JH both days, Val Dagastino won AXSH, Bob Smichdt won 25MH both days, ASR was a battle between Dana Holt and Greg Lyons both days, and 25SSR was dominated by Greg Lyons both days.  All of the action was captured on film thanks to Garrett Kline and his son who were at the races both days.  Photos can be seen at:  http://pictures.bytesandpix.com/sports  Thank you gentlemen for the great photos!

Thanks to all who came to the race to enjoy a weekend of racing and comradery with TRORA.  I can't wait until next year as TRORA hopes to have a bigger and better event.
