2nd Annual John Read Memorial Regatta
Franklin, Pa
May 26-28, 2007
While several outboard racers have already hit the water in 2007, many will be revving up for the first time this season at the 2nd Annual John Read Memorial Regatta. Stock and Modified racers from Regions 2, 3, 4, & 6 will converge on Justus Lake hoping to capture victory at one of the premier Midwestern outboard events of 2007.
2006 saw several changes to the course, including a reversal of the front and back stretches and a lengthened starting shoot, which provided for great racing water and fierce battling. 2007 is shaping up to be just as exciting with one of the showcase classes, C Stock Hydro, pitting a world-class field of drivers against one another under the new ¾” height rule. Time will tell which of the perennial favorites has done their homework since the APBA National Meeting. Don’t miss what is sure to be a great time on and off the water.
Friday, May 25 will be insured testing from 2pm-6pm for those who register Friday morning and pay the minimal testing fee. Saturday, May 26, and Sunday, May, 27, will be two separate days of racing for the following classes: BMR, CMR, DMR, BMH, CMH, DMH, 25MH, FEH, ASR, CSR, 25SSR, ASH, CSH, DSH, 25SSH, 20SSH, J CLASS R, J CLASS H, AXSH, AXSR. Two heats of racing per class for all classes. Classes with less than 5 entries may be combined, per race committee disgression, with another class to help speed along the race day.
It is TRORA's goal at each of its races to run the Safest, Most Efficient race possible in a Timely Manner. Come join the fun at Franklin, PA!!!
Post-Race Report
TRORA’s first race, Franklin, Pa was another successful event. There were roughly 100 entries each day with drivers coming from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and New York.
There was plenty of great racing in all classes throughout the weekend. A few of the stand out classes were; ASH, AXSH, CSH and 20ssH. Each of these classes had almost a full field of entries which resulted in great racing action on the water. In the ASH class, Earl Desiato, Dylan Justice and Amy Sweeney were just a few of the drivers who gave it their all and ended up with solid finishes both days. In AXSH, Valerie Dagostino, and James Luce were the drivers to beat. Each driver showed their skill and speed all weekend with finishes on the podium. In CSH, Scott Clark was the driver to beat. He won three out of four heats of racing over the weekend. Joe Silvestri, and John Robarge, were two of the CSH racers who battled with Scott to no avail, but gave it everything they had. In 20SSH, A.J. Jennings was the fastest of the field. Chasing A.J. all weekend were Matt Dagostino, Joe Silvestri, Joel Weigel, and Ross Webster. I do not have the scoring sheets to give exact finishes for each class over the weekend but once I do I will post them.
A big THANK YOU to Joel Weigel, the race committee, and all others who helped out throughout the weekend to provide a smooth and speedy race day, which resulted in finishing the race schedule in a timely manner both days. Unfortunately, due to local politics, TRORA will not be able to host the fall Franklin, Pa race as the park will be shut down for the remainder of the year. Hopefully, everything will be ironed out over the course of the year and TRORA will be able to host another spring race at Franklin, Pa in 2008.
TRORA would like to thank all those who came to the Franklin, Pa race, including all racers, those who helped set-up and tear down the race equipment and the local park personnel. TRORA’s next race will be at Curwensville, Pa and we hope to see everyone there for another great weekend of racing.
